Super rules - Rules

AGE:

  • All players to be aged 35 years or over in the current year. Clubs can play one 33 year old and one 34 year old, providing they are not playing Saturday football.

DURATION OF MATCHES:

  • Matches to be played over 4 quarters of 20 minutes each with no time on.

TEAM SIZE:

  • Teams consist of 18 players with a minimum of 6 interchange players. Masters Association Football - SA Division Inc. matches must be played with the same number of players on both teams. This may mean the lending of players from one team to another or reducing the number of players on a team at any time during the match.

SCORING:

  • To be on the following basis

Behind 

Kicked by any type of kick.

1 point

Goal

Kicked by a punt kick.

6 points

Supergoal

Kicked by drop kick (type of kick not the person of the "Dropkick" variety) Player must be outside the goal square when the ball is kicked.

9 points

  • Supergoal to be signaled by goal umpire waving one white flag and one coloured flag. To be added to the scorecard as 1 goal and 3 behinds = 9 points

PENALTIES:

  • BARGING. Any player attempting to barge through two or more opposition players will be penalised for "holding the ball".

  • MARKING. The player in front of the pack to be given every protection and opportunity to be paid the mark. Opposing players can spoil the mark provided there is no undue body contact.

  • HOLDING THE BALL. Player in possession to be given a "more than reasonable" time to dispose of the ball.

  • PROTECTION FOR THE PLAYER PLAYING THE BALL. He is to be given utmost attention by the umpires. Any contact other than a side bump or 'waist tackle' to be deemed 'unduly rough play'. 'Waist tackle' is defined as a tackle on the opposing player to catch him 'holding the ball'. The tackle is as per a fair tackle under the rules of Australian Football.

ORDER OFF RULE:

  • Field umpires shall carry RED, YELLOW and GREEN cards for all matches. Players given a card cannot be replaced for the set duration of the penalty period outlined on the card issued and must return the card personally to the umpire prior to returning to the field.

Players can be ordered off for the following indiscretions:

 

GREEN CARD:

Any player who commits the following offences:

  • Using abusive, insulting, obscene or threatening language to another person which may be an opposition player or team mate

  • Wasting time

  • Shaking goal posts either before, during or after a kick for goal.

Green Card Penalty shall be automatic send-off for remainder of current quarter plus on additional quarter.

 

YELLOW CARD:

Any player who commits the following offences:

  • Throwing a player to the ground after the ball is out of play

  • Attempting to strike another player

  • Charging another player

  • Engaging in a melee

  • Engages in rough play - including shoulder charges to the back of an opposing player, charges on shepherding players or unnecessary vicious pushes and shepherds.

Yellow Card Penalty shall be automatic send-off for duration of current match.

 

RED CARD:

Any player who commits the following offences:

  • Unduly interferes with or assaults or uses threatening language to an umpire or behaves in a threatening manner towards an umpire.

  • Assaults another player or official

  • Kicks or attempts to kick another player or official

  • Intentionally or attempts to trip by foot or leg

  • Front on shoulder charging (shirt front).

Red Card Penalty shall be automatic send-off for remainder of game with player to face tribunal. If player is found guilty of offence will decide if further penalty is required for offending player.

  • A second offence of a Green or Yellow card will automatically attract a Red Card.

  • When an emergency umpire is in attendance, he shall have the power to issue cards for any indiscretions

RACIAL ABUSE:

  • No player, spectator or official shall act towards or speak to any other person in a manner, or engage in any other conduct which threatens, disparages, vilifies or insults another person on the basis of that person's race, religion, colour, descent, or national ethnic background.

  • In the event that a person has contravened Rule 7.i an umpire, club or player may lodge a complaint in writing within 24 hours to the Executive Director, who will call a tribunal meeting.

DISCIPLINE:

 

The Management Committee reserves the right to enforce disciplinary action on any person of a club not abiding by the ideals of Masters Australian Football - SA Division Inc.

 

BLOOD BIN:

  • No person (i.e. players, umpires, trainers, runners etc.) shall participate in a game if he/she is bleeding or has blood on his/her uniform or person. A bleeding person will leave the field when directed to by the field umpire and may be replaced.

  • The bleeding person cannot return to the field until the cause or the bleeding has stopped. The injury must be securely covered so that no blood is visible. Blood must be cleaned from the uniform and body to the satisfaction or the field umpire.

  • PROCEDURE: Only the field umpire in charge of play has the responsibility to send bleeding people from the ground. On noticing the blood or having the matter brought to his attention, the field umpire shall stop play at the next available break in play and then direct the person from the field. The person leaving the ground may do so from the nearest point. A replacement player may enter the field of play and take up his position, before the bleeding player has left the oval. The game can then proceed, once the replacement player is in position.
